SBGA Accepting Entries for Landry Award

and SBGA Travel Awards

The Striped Bass Growers Association (SBGA) is accepting entries for the 2012 Walter Landry Memorial Award, to be awarded to a college student for outstanding achievements in research related to the culture of any of the species in the Morone genus and/or Morone hybrids.  The award and a travel assistance of $500 will be presented at the SBGA General Membership Meeting during the SBGA Industry Forum, which is being held in conjunction with Aquaculture America 2012 in Las Vegas, NV.

Applications are also being accepted for two (2) Striped Bass Growers Travel Awards of $250 each that will be awarded at the same time as the Landry Award to deserving college students who demonstrate an interest in Morone or Morone hybrid culture and/or aquaculture in general as a career.  Students that apply for, but do not receive, the Walter Landry Memorial Award will be given preference when considering applications for these awards.

Applicants for the Landry Award should identify their academic affiliation and the professor they are working with, supply contact information for themselves and the professor, and provide a summary (2-4 pages) detailing their research accomplishments.  Students that are not awarded the Landry Award will automatically be considered for the Travel Award.

Students applying for the Travel Award only will find an application available here that they will need to submit.  Instructions are on the application.

Winning students should arrange to be present at the SBGA Industry Forum to hear the presentations (when not making their own presentations elsewhere), and will receive their awards at the start of the SBGA General Membership Meeting.  The winner of the Landry Award should be prepared to give a 5-10 minute presentation about their research.

Depending upon the quality and quantity of applicants, SBGA reserves the right to refuse or limit the number of awards.

Applications may be submitted in one of the following ways no later than December 4, 2012:

  1. Mail to either “Walter Landry Memorial Award” or “SBGA Travel Award,” Striped Bass Growers Association, PO Box 1647, Pine Bluff, AR, 71613
  2. Fax to SBGA at: 870-850-7902
